triple digits!

Today is the day it seems everyone around here has been waiting for -  the first triple digit temp. day.
It reached 101 degrees around 1:30.  and yep! it's hot -  even a "dry heat" at 101 is hot!

And now onto the cards.......
I really liked all the samples I saw using this set.  And I saw them everywhere so I finally decided to get them and play...

This is a new set from Tim Holtz. I stamped them with archival black ink onto water color  paper.I did stamp the flower heads three times separately and then stamped the flowers and stems together on another piece.  It was a little tricky trying to get the flowers and stems to match but with the extra flowers, I was able to hide the little spaces between them.   I had lots of fun water coloring with pencils and a water brush. The ink spatters in blue were put in before I did any coloring.  A little smoosh onto my craft mat with Tumbled Glass and lots of water provided the color for that.

I then cut them down to fit on an A2 kraft card, did a little distressing added a sentiment and had three cards to send to some special people.  I had to change up the purple design but did use a partial cut from this grouping.

I will post the final designs before I get them in the mail.
Hope your day is going well!  thanks for stopping in today.

what a day!

We took a little trip today.  We thought we knew where we were going but we  never thought it would be so cool..

Sabino Canyon is in the Coronado National forest, less than 30 minutes away.
We boarded a Tram that took us up 4 miles into an amazing area.  We traveled through lakes, streams, sand, volcanic rocks, and of course mountain areas.
I couldn't believe how much the terrain changed so quickly.
Lots of fun!! And best of all, we got to leave the driving to someone else and just sit back and enjoy the ride.

It was hot so we did go in the morning. And we stayed in the shade whenever we could.
This little guy tried to stay cool, too.
He ran to the shaded bricks and then flattened himself like a pancake against the cool bricks.
He seemed to enjoy himself.

We actually thought he was posing for us!
thanks for stopping by.  Some new card creations tomorrow!

creating

Here is the final picture of the little paper bag book I started last week.

I finished the cover with the mini rolled tattered florals die set.

And my waxing project.  I put all the pages together and added the covers.  I had a little difficulty with the coptic stitch but in the end I managed to keep it all together.

I "pulled" my waxed linen a little too hard and in the wrong direction so some of the holes ripped.  I also had to take some stitches out.  Well taking waxed linen out of waxed holes proved to be too difficult so I had to cut the thread and knot it in a few visible places.  Oh, well,  it added to the whimsical charm, right?

Inside pages........ and sketches........

my little hand drawn (heavily copied from Plays with paper blog) people.  I did enjoy this part and will do it again.  I learned some things about using wax.  Each page is coated with beeswax after I stitched the little people down.  They are ATC sized and the pages measure 6 x 8.  I used a Mixed Media paper pad for the pages( colored with watercolor paints, gelatos and anything else I could find!) and the ATCs are watercolor paper, sketched in pencil and traced with a stibillo pencil.
the covers are the Mixed Media papers folded in half and glued together, covered in torn text papers and then dry brushed with acrylic paints, gelatos and the stibillo pencil.
It was fun!! And I will make more.

Be back soon!  Thanks for checking in.

detroit friends

If any of you in Michigan get the Detroit News, check out the pictures of Civil War Remembrance at Greenfield Village.  Yes! that's our son giving commands to "new recruits".  Boy, it brought back a flood of memories.  We spent many Memorial Days there, enjoying all the activities.

wip

I woke up Saturday with a project bouncing around in my head..........5 hours later, I got to a stopping place.  It isn't quite finished but I will show you what it looks like and what it looked like along the way...

the project is down in the bottom left right now

work station number two  granite counter tops are nice surfaces for staining, and painting

the pages are coming together

some of the supplies I used

a few more and the project, again in the bottom left corner

I have been obsessed with paper bag books for a while.  This is my 4th one in the past two months.

I don't have a picture of the completed cover yet but I did use my new favorite die set - Tim Holtz mini tattered floral thin dies!  They are amazing, especially when used with co-ordinations papers.  I will post a picture soon.
 This is sized about 3 x 3 1/2 inches.

And we had another visitor yesterday.....

I think he is actually bigger than the book.
At least I didn't see any stingers, fangs, or spikes on him and he didn't have a lizard in his mouth, like the road runner I saw this morning.
thanks for stopping by.

Cubed

Okay, I have decided to change the delivery of this project.  If you would like the FREE tutorial for how to make this, just email me or leave a comment here. It will be done in a series of lessons so you can begin yours even before I finish mine!

Here is what I have so far.......

Let me know if you are interested......

and here is a fun watercolor design and the how to:

trace through a stencil with watercolor pencils.  Remove the stencil and rub the color with your finger and a baby wipe.  Let dry then replace the stencil and trace again with a micro tip permanent marker. Add some doodles inside the stencil.  Add blue and green scribbles and wet with the baby wipe.  Add a border.
I saw this on a utube yesterday but forgot where.  Sorry I cannot credit the artist.....
This is a Wendi Vecchi stencil.
